Popper and Company’s Stephanie Kreml, M.D., Named Juror Of 2014 Medical Design Excellence Awards®

SARASOTA, FL & BALTIMORE, MD – February 20, 2014 – Popper and Company, an M&A advisory and specialty consulting firm dedicated to helping life science and technology companies address inefficiences in health care, announced today that Stephanie Kreml, M.D., Principal, has been named a juror of the medical technology industry’s premier awards program, the 2014 Medical Design Excellence Awards® (MDEA). Judging of each year’s MDEA competition is conducted by an impartial, multidisciplinary panel of expert jurors—comprised of a balance of clinicians, engineers, and designers—who carefully review all of the submissions and narrow them down to a select group of exceptional products in each of the 11 Medtech categories.

“As a member of the Popper and Company team, a clinician and an engineer, Stephanie is ideally positioned to the role of juror in a competition like the Medical Design Excellence Awards,” said Caroline Popper, M.D., M.P.H., the firm’s Co-founder and President. “We’re pleased with her involvement as it supports our ongoing commitment to help companies from many industries address health care inefficiencies with the best that medical technology has to offer.”

Dr. Kreml’s broad career spans across clinical research, product engineering, medical technologies, and commercialization strategy roles.  She returned to Popper and Company as a principal in 2013 after having previously served with the firm from 2008 to 2010. In her current role, she develops and implements business strategy for start-up companies and new business units in existing companies; consults in areas of clinical need, commercialization, and technology assessment; performs due diligence for investment and acquisition targets in the life science industry; critically evaluates unmet clinical needs and technologies; and provides guidance to accelerate new product development activities. She also recently began serving as a guest columnist for InformationWeek Healthcare, providing thought leadership on various topics related to digital health.

Members of the MDEA jury are selected each year by a panel of editors from UBM Canon. Such independence and impartiality is a leading reason for the industry wide acceptance and success that the MDEA program has enjoyed. MDEA jurors—past and present—have set a high standard for judging excellence and fair competition.
